scientifically known as poecilia reticulata, the guppy comes in two major forms: fancy guppies and feeder guppies. If you are a beginner and you want a good quality guppy, you should get a feeder guppy because fancy guppies have been inbred and are poor quality. Wild guppies are also a good pick because they are less inbred.
behavior[]
Guppies have the annoying habit of eating their fry after their short time of parental care is over. Otherwise the guppy is a nice social addition to your aquarium.
Be careful adding guppies to aquariums with barbs, because they could/will nip at their fins.
Guppies are livebearers, which mean that they incubate their eggs inside their body. Because of this guppies have lots of offspring.
feeding[]
Guppies will eat small live foods, flake foods and prepared foods.
